Vakansie

Hierdie is seker die laaste post wat ek sal maak voor ek op vakansie vertrek. Ek gaan vir twee weke by Die Burger in Kaapstad gaan werk en vir die res van die twee weke by SABC TV nuus in Port Elizabeth.
Hou dop vir al my berigte op die blog. Ek sal probeer om deur die vakansie so gereeld as moontlik te blog, maar dit sal dalk nie altyd so moontlik wees vir 'n gereelde update nie.

Everything has a gender

I received this and the "Can you raed?" post by e-mail from Charl Naudé.

You may not know this, but many non-living things have a gender...

Ziploc Bags are Male, because they hold everything in, but you can see right through them.
Copiers are Female, because once turned off, it takes a while to warm them up again. It's an effective reproductive device if the right buttons are pushed, but can wreak havoc if the wrong buttons arepushed.
A Tire is Male, because it goes bald and it's often over-inflated.
A Hot Air Balloon is Male, because to get it to go anywhere, you have to light a fire under it and of course, there's the hot air part.
Sponges are Female, because they're soft, squeezable and retain water.
A Web Page is Female, because it's always getting hit on.
A Subway is Male, because it uses the same old lines to pick peopleup.
An Hourglass is Female, because over time the weight shifts to the bottom.
A hammer is Male, because it hasn't changed much over the last 5,000 years but it's handy to have around.
A Remote Control is Female. Ha! You thought it'd be male, didn't you? But consider this - it gives a man pleasure, he'd be lost without it and while he doesn't always know the right buttons to push, he keeps trying!

The Hills have eyes

Was out yesterday night to spend some quility time alone. I was going to watch the movie The Hills have eyes as I like scary movies very much. Later met someone I know (friend Alexa's flatmate) and made me promise to come have a drink after the movie.
It was about 00:30 when the movie came out. At that time the students were so drunk. It's so funny! Theres a staircase in The Rat and Parrot and the stairs are quite dificult to climb. Especialy when you are drunk... One girl threw up from the top of the stairs, falling, sliding down all the way from the top to the bottom and just lied there. It was so funny. Even when you hear their head bump with each time it hits a stair. Think this must become my new hobby now - watching drunk people...

About the movie
I realised that its better to stay at home when watching a horror. It just turns into a comedy when watching at the theatre. I never get scared at gruesome stuff, they just spoil everything. But when other people goes "urgh" and "bluh" in the movies and screams like hell, I just start to laugh. Next time I will stay at home, download the movie and have friends over. Much better than having popcorn thrown on your lap and sticky floors.

The story

but it had great tension and a theme, buried beneath effectively disgusting blood-letting.

Die lewe is soos 'n waterval...

Hallo almal en welkom by my nuwe blog. Die oue het my geirriteer en dus skep ek maar vir my 'n nuwe een met 'n vars look.
So 'n paar dinge: Ek is Afrikaans. Soos in totaal en al Afrikaans. Maar ek skryf al vir Die Burger sedert ek in Graad 10 was, het my eie koerant besit, werk gedoen op radiostasies en gemeenskapskoerante... Kortom: Ek love Afrikaans en ek love joernalistiek.
Toe kom swot ek op Rhodes. Alles Engels. En so liberaal as kan kom. Liewe mense! Vir my wat van 'n klein konserwatiewe gemeenskap kom was dit nogal 'n aanpassing.

Maar hier sit ek nou, 6 maande later met die beste, ondersteunende vriende waarvoor mens kan vra. Dis nou my vriende hier, dié wat saam met my in die blogosfeer kuier, kontakte en ménse! Hierdie 6 maande was so stormagtig soos 'n waterval. Die water beweeg dikwels al hoe vinniger en gebeure vorm saam 'n maalkolk van probleme wat dramaties op skerp rotse neerplons. Maar sit ek en kyk terug na die 6 maande wat reeds verby is, sien ek hoe alles nodig was om 'n pragtige natuurtoneel te skep.

Klou vas, want hierdie is 'n rowwe ride!
